Aural Aesthetics

Sunday 9th April, 2017

John Lee Theatre | 13:30 - 14:45

A medley of shorts exploring the sonic side of filmmaking.

As with the amps in This is Spinal Tap, this medley of shorts, exploring the sonic side of filmmaking, goes up to eleven. Featuring Mica Levi’s exquisite soundtrack to Turner Prize nominee Phil Collins’ manga-style film Delete Beach (UK premiere), more visceral provocations by Japanese animator Sawako Kabuki with her most recent promo Nou Nen feat. utae, and Finnish visual artist Mika Taanila’s ode to Bowie which reworks Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth. More experimental fare can be found in Colby Richardson’s mesmerising Convolve in which the audio is produced from a recorded version of the Super8 video feed, and Alyona Larionova’s Birdman-esque jazz-enveloped short, Across Lips.
