First aired last autumn as part of the Birmingham on Film archive season, this compilation features a range of terrific canal-related footage from the Midlands including a 60s test-drive for an electric Ski-Kart in Gas Street Basin, and the wartime novelty of female bargees in a Pathe item entitled 'Beauty and the Barge'.

The best way to explore Birmingham's canal network is either on water or on two wheels, and happily you can do either today. B-Row and British Canoeing have teamed up to offer free taster sessions on a range of canoes, an ideal warm-up for Alys Fowler's book launch this evening. There will also be a number of bikes available for the day courtesy of Birmingham Cycle Revolution - please bring along photo ID and recent (2017) proof of address.
