Dir. Various

As with the last Flatpack, we close the lid on our shorts programmes with a round-up of some of the best animation we’ve come across recently. There’s student talent in abundance: in the very funny Man Up (dir: Ed Barrett, Royal College of Art) a crane-driver attempts to turn his back on humanity, while a comic melts down onstage in Stand Up (dir: Joseph Pierce, National Film and Television School). Paper cut-outs from Johnny Kelly (The Seed) and Geoffroy de Crecy (Bubblicious), a mesmerising piece of stop-frame for Cornelius by Koichiro Tsujikawa and two internet-spawned works strutting their stuff on the big screen, Western Spaghetti from PES and David O’Reilly’s Berlin-winning Please Say Something. Plus two which you may have seen already, but which bear repeated viewing; MUTO (dir: Blu) and The Black Dog’s Progress (dir: Stephen Irwin).
