Fizzle: Signal Loss

Fizzle curators will perform improvised scores to a selection of newly restored classics of American experimental film.

FIZZLE: SIGNAL LOSS Over the past fifteen years Fizzle has welcomed to Birmingham some of the leading figures in European and American improvised music, and its regular free improvisation concert series at the Lamp Tavern, Digbeth continues to be one of the city’s principal jazz nights. For this special event Fizzle curators Andrew Woodhead (piano) and Bruce Coates (saxophones), along with Hannah Marshall (cello) and Corey Mwamba (vibraphone), will perform improvised scores to a selection of newly restored classics of American experimental film. Titles include Joseph Cornell’s montage short Thimble Theatre and the seminal and extraor- dinary N.Y., N.Y. by Oscar-winning documentarian Francis Thompson, which was shot through specially-made kaleidoscope lenses.
