We're delighted to welcome to Birmingham filmmaker Guy Sherwin to present a selection of his work. Sherwin studied painting and then went on to teach printing and processing at London Film-Maker’s Co-op (now LUX), where he began an experimentation with celluloid and sound which goes on today. At Flatpack he’ll be presenting a series of pieces, some using multiple projectors: Sound Cuts (2007), Cycles#3 (2003/1972), Bay Bridge from Embarcadero (2006), and Camden Road Station (2004), finishing with the astonishing performance piece Man with Mirror (1976 ->).

At the age of 26 Sherwin shot a Super-8 film of himself standing in a sunny pastoral landscape, holding a screen in front of his torso. Now more than twice that age, the artist projects the original film onto an identical screen held in the same way, attempting to ‘mirror’ his own earlier movements. (Some of Guy’s ‘Optical Sound Films’ are also showing as part of Kinopixel earlier on Saturday.)
