Hans Eijkelboom: The Street and Modern Life

Wednesday 20th April, 2016

BM&AG - Gas Hall | 10:30

Hans Eijkelboom’s photographic work explores the construction of identity through clothing and personal appearance and, in turn, the relationship between individual and social identities in an increasingly globalised culture.

Hans Eijkelboom’s photographic work explores the construction of identity through clothing and personal appearance and, in turn, the relationship between individual and social identities in an increasingly globalised culture. Working with Multistory, Hans turned his lens to the Bull Ring in Birmingham between July 2013 and September 2014. The result is a scrolling tapestry of shoppers, structured around visual themes spotted during the research.

The Street and Modern Life was commissioned by Multistory as part of an ongoing body of photographic work and archive that documents life in the Black Country and the West Midlands. Hans will be talking about his work on Wednesday 20 April, from 4pm at our Gas Hall hub.

Gas Hall opening times: Wednesday - Friday 12:00 - 19:00, Saturday 10:30 - 21:00, Sunday 10:30 - 17:00

Suitable for all ages.
