Harrachov Exchange
Combining live action and stop-frame animation, HARRACHOV explores the effect of an arcane force that, like a black hole or immensely powerful electromagnet, exerts a far-reaching and irresistible power upon certain objects and materials, willfully seducing, centralizing and internalizing them. Piece by piece, a menacing machine-system is constructed. Each object that joins to form the bizarre collection is identified by a unique articulation of sound and movement, all of them combining to create an eerie chorus.
Extraordinarily, the beast that the film begets exists for real, beyond the confines of the screen, as an impressive, fully-functional kinetic sculpture: THE HARRACHOV EXCHANGE, designed and constructed by Guy Bishop.
Funded by the Nederlands Filmfonds, Rotterdams Filmfonds, Thuiskopie Fonds, Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen.
A film by Matt Hulse & Joost van Veen with Ben Rivers. Kinetic sculpture construction by Guy Bishop.
