GIRLS NIGHT OUT (dir: Joanna Quinn)

Award-winning 1987 short by a Kings Heath-born animator, about a raucous evening on the town.

 

MOMMA DON’T ALLOW (dir: Karel Reisz)

Beautiful Free Cinema snapshot of a London jazz club in the 1950s.

 

THE WESTERNER (dir: Mark Lynall)

Country and punk clash in a Digbeth pub.

 

LAS PALMAS (dir; Johannes Nyholm)

Outrageous Swedish short mixing live action with puppets.

 

Also featuring a wealth of Birmingham footage provided by the Media Archive for Central England, from jazz dances at Town Hall to hip hop all-dayers at the Hummingbird. (Total programme 60 minutes approx, playing twice at 6pm and 7.15 with music in between.) Birmingham company Bean2Bed have also generously offered five of their humungous bean-beds for the night - get there early to guarantee yourself one.
