Suntan
Forty-something Dr Kostis becomes obsessed with a young woman on a Greek island.
Forty-something Dr Kostis is transferred to the small island of Antiparos, in recovery from some unspecified trauma. An encounter with a young woman at the surgery sparks his interest, and before long this becomes a full-blown obsession. Describing Suntan as a ‘coming-of-middle-age drama’, director Papadimitropoulos turns his steely gaze on our doomed desire to hang onto youth, played out against a backdrop of nubile flesh and holiday hedonism. The results are deeply discomfiting, and never less than compelling.
