The Art Life

Sunday 9th April, 2017

The Electric Cinema Screen 2 | 16:30 - 18:00

Lynch reflects on his career while pottering around his studio engaged in his first love, painting.

As a child, David Lynch would sit in mud puddles under a tree. As a young man, he'd keep dead mice, birds and rotting fruit in the basement, in order to follow the natural process of decay. On discovering this secret hoard his parents advised him never to have children, and some years later when he risked penury during the production of Eraserhead they begged him to get a proper job.

Lynch tells these tales while pottering around the studio engaged in his first love, painting, and reflecting on the early years of a career that went on to redefine cinema. Drawing on a wealth of childhood archives and rarely seen on-set footage, along with interviews that reveal so much and yet so little, The Art Life peels back the layers of one man’s artistic evolution.

Due to popular demand, this screening will be repeated on Sunday 9th April: The Art Life (rerun)
