The Cinema Travellers

Sunday 9th April, 2017

The Electric Cinema Screen 2 | 18:30 - 20:15

The Cinema Travellers is a portrait of two contrasting touring operators in rural India.

For decades many in rural India have relied on ‘touring talkies’ for their movie-going, a cinematic fairground where you can enjoy a scratchy print for a few rupees. The Cinema Travellers is a portrait of two contrasting touring operators: Mohammed, a wide-boy who will use saucy movies when audiences are scarce; and Bapu, fuelled more by faith than finance and struggling to keep his rusty truck on the road. Both are under threat from changes in technology and viewing habits, and as well as capturing the border-crossing magic of cinema this beautifully atmospheric film also shows us a vanishing world.
