The Haunted Screen
In the run-up to Box of Light the Haunted Screen will be turning the Discovery Pavilion into a mysterious “film set”. Against the trend of modern digital image making, participants and library visitors can get involved in all aspects of shooting short films using old-fashioned black and white Super 8mm film, including camerawork, special effects, lighting, sound and performance. Source material for the films’ narratives will be provided by the horrible histories of ne’er-do-well 19th century Brummies, and visual backdrops for scenes will take inspiration from the Library’s collection of glass photographic slides. After being hand-processed, the finished films will be screened with live accompaniment on Saturday 26th October in the Pavilion – now transformed into a Victorian Cinema Parlour.
Please note there is also an opportunity to try your hand at projecting or get tactile with a piece of celluloid on Sunday 27th October. For further info on the Haunted Screen go to the blog: thehauntedscreen.wordpress.com
