Dir. Denis Côté / Canada 2013 / 95 min
Vic is holed up in the woods, recuperating from unspecified horrors in her past including a spell in prison. When fellow inmate and lover Flo joins her, they slowly start to build a life in the sticks under the watchful eye of parole officer Guillaume. However, Flo’s regular golf-buggy jaunts to the local bar are a sign that the Quebec countryside won’t contain her for long.
A plot description gives very little sense of this beguiling, devastating, uncategorisable film. We’re not supposed to have favourites, but between you and us, this is one of the best things you’ll find at this year’s festival.
