Founded in 1854, the Birmingham and Midland Institute is a charity dedicated to the promotion of learning across all sections of society in Birmingham and the Midlands. Housed within a Victorian edifice in the heart of the city, the Institute has its own Library and lecture theatres.

Did You Know… The BMI was originally built next to the Town Hall but moved to its current location in 1965. It was originally built through an Act of Parliament in 1852 “for the Diffusion and Advancement of Science, Literature and Art amongst all Classes of Persons resident in Birmingham and the Midland Counties”.
