Helping Flatpack to fade out with a medley of obscure celluoid treats from the Outer Sight vaults.
To celebrate the launch of Waxwork Records' launch of its much sought after (and previously unreleased) soundtrack, Outer Sight are excited to screen a rare original 16mm film print of Saul Bass' cult 1974 science fiction masterpiece... PHASE IV.
The sole feature film directed by famed graphic designer and title sequence creator Bass (North by North West, Psycho, Casino, Cape Fear), PHASE IV is a brilliantly designed parable set in a parched desert landscape, where a mysterious last stand ensues between baffled scientists and a vigorous ant population that's had it's consciousness and purpose interrupted by a rare celestial event.
One of the stand out elements of the film, along with its stunningly shot macro sequences, is the unnerving electro-symphonic score composed and realised by BBC Radiophonic'ers Brian Gascoigne, David Vorhaus and Desmond Briscoe, along with proggy-psych contributions by Stom'u Yamashta. US soundtrack label Waxwork Records has worked for over a year to bring the score to light, and its vinyl release includes detailed production notes alongside rare stills. We will be giving away WAXWORK merchandise at the screening, alongside a selection of great soundtrack LPs which will be available from our friends at Shipping Records.
