Seaside Special + Q&A
Fish n’ chips. Nobbly knees competitions. Knotted handkerchiefs. All solid staples of the British seaside experience.
This is where we join the residents of Cromer, whose end-of-the-pier show is allegedly the world’s last and the “nearest thing to the Europeans”.
Shooting on 16mm Kodak stock, Berlin-based director and writer Jens Meurer documents a year in the life of the town’s residents and performers, while the effects of Brexit wreak havoc on the rest of the country.
Whether or not Cromer makes an ideal microcosm of the country is debatable, with locals describing the place as a bubble where they can get along without the rest of the world, but it’s a fascinating look at modern Britain from afar.
Joining us for the screening and Q&A is director Jens Meurer.
