The Shop Around The Corner

Saturday 8 December 2018

Birmingham Cathedral | 16:00 - 18:00

Christmas is just around the corner! To start off the annual roll out of festive films, we bring you a couple of Hollywood icons, a gorgeous venue, and a good, old-school rom com.

Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan play two gift shop employees that simply cannot stand each other. Over the course of the Christmas season however, they accidentally fall in love through letters they exchange as each other's anonymous pen pal. Sound familiar? Well, Ernst Lubitsch's film actually served as the inspiration for the 1998 Hanks and Ryan schmaltz-fest You've Got Mail!

We're suckers for the original here at Flatpack and are thrilled to invite you to join us for a Christmas screening of the classic Hollywood charmer in the ever so beautiful Birmingham Cathedral.

4pm doors / 4.30pm film.

This screening will be followed by Silent Night: The Marvellous Mabel Normand at 8pm. This year's edition of our ever-popular festive celebration of silent era icons will feature a specially composed live score performed by The Meg Morely Trio.

Dir: Ernst Lubitsch, USA 1940, 99 mins.
