Apply Now: BFI Film Academy Short Course
Calling all budding filmmakers and production crew - BFI Film Academy Short Courses are back!
These Screen Skills courses are for 16-19 years olds looking to develop new skills and knowledge to help build a career in the screen industries. No experience is necessary, and the courses are completely free (though places are limited). Applications are also open to 16-25 year olds with ECHP.
This year, Flatpack is teaming up with Rural Media to deliver one of four courses across the West Midlands, all of which you can apply for here. Our patch is Stoke/Staffordshire, so if you live in or around those areas or you're happy to travel and you're interested in making films, this could be the course for you. Travel bursaries are available.
There are also courses available across the UK - check out the full list here.
When does it take place?
The first session takes place 17th October 2024, 17:30-20:30, and sessions run until the end of January. You can take a look at the provisional schedule here. It's designed to work around college and work commitments with sessions in the evenings, weekends and half term break.
Where are the sessions?
Sessions take place at Mitchell Arts Centre in Stoke-on-Trent.
What's involved?
The programme includes workshops, masterclasses and hands-on experience with industry experts in storytelling, scriptwriting, producing, directing, editing and more.
Participants will take on individual professional film roles to produce a film from start to finish, learning all the ins and outs of film industry and production and gaining an industry qualification by the end of the course.
You'll get to use your ideas to make a film about what's important to you, plus gain access to events like BAFTA career talks.
How to apply
Eligibility criteria can be found on our online application form. Applications close on Friday 27 September 2024, with applicants receiving confirmation of application by Wednesday 2nd October.
