Work Experience: A Day in the Life
Logan Sharman joined us for a week at Flatpack HQ to learn about all things film (as well as how to make the perfect brew).
On my first day I started off by meeting the team and getting stuck in with the first activity, this involved doing some research about Flatpack so I could learn more about the festival and what they did. Then I had to come up with an idea for my very own screening of any film I wanted, which I really enjoyed doing. My idea was a special outdoor screening of Mission Impossible: Fallout at West Park in Wolverhampton. Coming soon. Maybe :)
I then spent the day doing a lot of research on outdoor cinemas, so I got to know what different areas of the Midlands were doing with outdoor cinema and what types of films they were showing, which was interesting to find out.
On Tuesday I was introduced to film programming with Amy which was fun to do, as I got to watch loads of short films and do research about the different films and themes. I chatted with Amy about what films I liked etc. then in the afternoon I carried on with my film programme and started to write copy about the different films I chose as part of my short film programme.
Wednesday I started to get a playlist together of different films that were going to be shown at Telford Film Festival. This was exciting learning how to build playlists and put these clips together. Then after I had my lunch I was tasked with going through Flatpack hard drives and cataloguing film content.
Thursday was my favourite day as I gained a lot of experience and developed my communication skills as I was in two different meetings that day, giving out a lot of my ideas which people enjoyed hearing. This was a good experience as I was working with other people and seeing how meetings worked, they were a lot more relaxed than I expected!
Friday, I was treated to go to the cinema, which I really enjoyed as it was just a fun day, I then wrote a film review about it, which I really enjoyed being able to write about what I thought of the film.
Overall, my time at Flatpack has been amazing and it’s been exciting meeting people and finding out more about how the film industry works.
