“It’s a perfect night for mystery and horror. The air itself is filled with monsters…”
No thunder and lightning, but a frisson of anticipation as darkness settled on Dudley Castle. Over 600 intrepid folks ascended the hill to enjoy James Whale’s masterpiece Bride of Frankenstein, with occasional interventions by an attention-seeking peacock which only added to the atmosphere. Beyond the main feature, the ramparts were lit up by an array of ingenious projections and lighting devised by Michael Pigott, Mark Rhodes and David Checkley – big thanks to them for all their work, and to Dudley Zoo for being so accommodating. The evening was topped off by a surprise encounter with a descendant of James Whale, delighted to see so many appreciating her great-uncle’s legacy. Next stop: West Brom Town Hall.
