Following their blistering cut-up of Czech sci-fi film Ikarie XB1 at Flatpack 9, Giant Axe Field are back with an improvised audio-visual tribute to ‘Cinema Fantastique’.

For the past year they’ve lost themselves in the world of director Georges Franju, in particular the magic surrealism of Judex (1963) and Nuits Rouges (1974). Fragments from both films - images, dialogue, sound effects, ambient sound and existing score - will be triggered by and spliced with live drums, bass and tenor horn to reveal shifting patterns, narrative echoes and strange occurrences that, in Franju’s words, “speak of illusion and mystery”.

Giant Axe Field are Sean O’Keeffe, Simon Bailey and Maya Darrell Hewins.

Please note this event contains flashing imagery.
