The first seedlings of Flatpack were sown in June 2003, when a new short film night launched at the recently-rejuvenated Rainbow pub in Digbeth.
These Tuesday gatherings became a bit of an institution, gathering locally made shorts alongside pre-youtube online discoveries, archive oddities, DJs and live acts to create a much-needed focal point for Birmingham weirdos: "going out for people who don't like going out", as somebody once put it.
To mark 20 years of screening strange films in unlikely places, the 7inch phoenix will rise from the ashes to once again bamboozle and beguile with a selection of some of our greatest hits. As always music will be an important ingredient, with an ensemble from Stoney Lane Records including Chris Mapp and Annie Mahtani playing an improv score to a silent French short, and regular collaborators Sugarfoot Stomp spinning vintage tunes.
Grab your complementary sweets and foldout programme, take a seat, and enjoy the show.
