Beats

Saturday 4th May, 2019

The Mockingbird Cinema - Screen 1 | 18:45 - 20:30

Set to a soundtrack as eclectic and electrifying as the scene it gave birth to, Beats is a celebration of 90s rave culture.

The film takes place in Livingston in 1994, when Michael Howard’s Criminal Justice and Public Order Act had just been ratified, and tells the story of long-term pals Spanner and Johnno, who are planning one last weekend of fun at an illegal rave before Johnno moves away. When the police crack down on the party, things get more than complicated. A universal story of friendship, rebellion and the irresistible power of gathered youth, Beats has already been an audience favourite at festivals around the world and has the potential to become a Scottish classic in the vein of Trainspotting.
