Bigger! Badder!! Filmier!!!

Finham Park School presents the CovCreative Film Festival 2023, an extraordinary showcase of student shorts which promises to shine a spotlight on the creative talents of Finham Park students.

The CovCreative Film Festival is a celebration of the technical prowess and story-telling abilities of emerging student filmmakers from across the city's schools. With an eclectic mix of genres, sequences and shorts, these films represent the potential of the next generation of cinematic visionaries to emerge from the Midlands. When Finham Park first started teaching Film Studies, students were always encouraged to have the highest expectations of their work, and to enter films to local competitions. When the students started winning, they were encouraged to enter national competitions. In the last five years, Finham Park students have had almost 20 student films nominated for national prizes, including several winners. The Film department’s aspiration is to make Finham Park School a centre of film-making excellence and already they have had several students go on to work on BBC productions as well as local shorts.

This year’s festival prizes will be presented by a panel of judges from the film industry. Bob Cheshire’s work as concept artist on Marvel’s films is well-known, as is Gary Tomkins’ work as Art Director on Steven Spielberg’s War Horse and the Harry Potter films. Rounding off the jury is Josic Cadoret, a talent executive funding new talent at the BFI. With well wishes from Jason Watkins, Kit Harrington, Ewan McGregor and Raph Fiennes, it’s fair to say that this festival is getting noticed! Students nominated for awards are looking forward to talking to their heroes and working their way into what is a growing and successful industry in the UK.
