Magic Door: A cultural history of Moseley Park and Pool
The creation of Salisbury Road in the late 19th century cut the grounds of Moseley Hall in half, and created the new Moseley Park and Pool. It soon became an important cultural space as well as a peaceful green oasis - from brass bands and vegetable-growing competitions, via community festivals and avant-garde music videos, to the folk and jazz jamborees of today.
Led by Flatpack's own Ian Francis, this afternoon's walk is an opportunity to reflect on the park's cultural history - not only the gigs that have taken place there, but also the mythical role it has played for Birmingham artists, from the well-known (such as UB40, Kit de Waal and Osman Yousefzada) to the underground, the oddball and the disenfranchised.
Feel free to bring along your own park tales.
The day before the walk we have an outdoor screening of The Princess Bride (tickets need to be booked separately for this event).
