Rock in Reykjavik

Saturday 20th May, 2023

The Mockingbird Cinema - Screen 1 | 17:15 - 18:45

Doing exactly what it says on the tin, Rock in Reykjavik sees the most influential bands of Iceland’s post-punk music scene take to the stage with intense and intimate archive performances.

In the first of two appearances at Flatpack Festival this year (see Dancer in the Dark), Björk fronts Tappi Tíkarrass (long before The Sugarcubes were a thing) and Þeyr and Purrkur Pillnikk all deliver frenetic drums, choppy vocals and riffs so angular they might have someone’s eye out.

Friðrik Þór Friðriksson doses us up with live performances from 1981 and 1982 as well as talking heads interviews on all areas of sex, drugs and rock and roll. We also get the kind of pep talk from Björk that made us want to form a band. “1, 2, 3, 4….”
