This festival darling and BAFTA nominated film tells the story of a young Saudi girl whose burning desire for a bicycle leads to rebellion against her society's rules for young women.

'Wadjda' is a simple story but one with many nuances. An outstanding look into what it is to be a young Saudi girl. School, home, parents and a forbidden friendship with a young Saudi boy who she wishes to beat in a bicycle race. Cinema and TV is banned in Saudi Arabia so it is surprising this film was made at all, especially considering it was directed by a woman (Haifaa Al-Mansour). A heart-warming tale of a bold young life.
