Inspired by art depicting angels visible around West Berlin, at the time encircled by the Berlin Wall, Wings of Desire is a romantic fantasy film about an angel who tires of his purely ethereal life of merely overseeing the human activity and longs for the tangible joys of physical existence when he falls in love with a mortal.
