Before hitting the stage this evening, composer and pianist Neil Brand joins us to share stories and memories of silent cinema in Birmingham; the musicians, the picturehouses, the music that was played and the infrastructure that ensured audiences had music they loved with the films they wanted to see.
Despite so much being lost, Birmingham has a large amount of material that uncovers the hidden world of the city's own movie musicians. Fully illustrated, and some surprises guaranteed.
This event is part of Wonderland, a new project mapping the city's picture-palaces past and present and exploring the stories associated with them. Wonderland is presented by the Birmingham 2022 Festival, supported by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, produced by Flatpack Festival.
