Dir: Mohamed Diab Egypt/France 2016, 97 mins

Cert: 15

The second feature by Mohamed Diab set in post-revolution Cairo.

Mohamed Diab’s debut Bus 678 dramatised the sexual harassment of women in Egypt, and was described as a harbinger of the uprising to come. Now his focus is on the revolution’s aftermath, with equally provocative results. Clash is set in Cairo shortly after the removal of president Morsi from power by the military. Filmed mostly from within the confines of a police riot van containing detainees from the Muslim Brotherhood, pro-army supporters and ordinary citizens, Diab uses confined space to explore the dynamic between these different factions. A fast-paced, intense and brave piece of filmmaking that awaits its release in Egypt later this year.
