Experiencing Post-War Coventry through Film
Experiencing Post-War Coventry through Film
Wednesday 20th October, 2021
FREE EVENT
Coventry’s built environment is examined in this free event as part of the new Metropolis Exhibition, exploring the history of the city's architecture through film.
University of Warwick PhD researcher Kat Pearson will discuss her selection of film material for a compilation at the end of the exhibition, before talking about the broader collection of archives held by the Media Archive for Central England. Expect to see vox pops, public art and architecture in Coventry as well as footage of the shopping precinct that might look familiar but missing one or two more contemporary additions.
Kat will then be joined by one of the exhibition’s curators, Sabine Coady Schäbitz, for a conversation about the themes of the show and how we can understand contemporary Coventry better via an understanding of its history.
Throughout the event there will be time for questions and reflections.
Before and after, there will be an opportunity to see the rest of the exhibition and uncover some of the stories of the city.
The exhibition Metropolis: Coventry’s medieval and modernist ambitions – is the result of a collaborative partnership including Coventry University, Historic Coventry Trust, Medieval Coventry and Coventry City of Culture Trust. It also features exhibits created by academics from the University of Warwick.
