Falling Slowly

A performance-based artwork by the BMI’s artist-in-residence Dean Kelland. The work seeks to interrogate slapstick comedy as a genre, and pose questions about the role of the comedian and the subsequent exchanges between audience and performer. In character the artist repeats a ‘slapstick’ gesture on stage. This gesture is taken from, and embedded within, the history of slapstick yet is ruptured through the inadequacy and repetition of the performance. Falling Slowly will be presented in three acts throughout the festival: still images, performance and film.
