Film Camp

A one-day event exploring some of the latest innovations in cinema exhibition.

At Flatpack 10 we officially launched Flatpack: Assemble, a year-round partnership with the BFI to help build a more thriving, connected film community across the West Midlands. At Flatpack 11 the Assemble team are back to host Film Camp, a new one-day event exploring some of the latest innovations in cinema exhibition. The inaugural Film Camp will take place in Birmingham and is designed to bring together film exhibitors from across the country to share their wealth of experience as well as discuss new models and ways of thinking. The event is open to everyone from large-scale exhibitors to community cinema organisers and student film groups.

Sessions will include:

Panel: Film + Music 

A discussion of the relationship between music and film and the resurgence of live scoring in cinemas. The panel will include musicians John Sweeney and Ruth Chan, animator Loup Blaster and will be chaired by film journalist Beth Webb.

Workshop: Build Your Own Family Screening

Birmingham’s FAMALAM stage innovative family-focused events and will host a ‘Build Your Own Family Screening’ workshop showcasing creative ways to entertain children and parents alike.

Lunchtime Surgery: Diversifying Your Audience

Black culture collective Come the Revolution will host a lunchtime surgery session discussing their work in reaching diverse audiences and their commitment to exploring black life, experience and cultural expression through cinema.

Workshop: Build Your Own Archive

The Media Archive for Central England (MACE) will offer practical tips and expert guidance on successfully screening archive film.

Panel: Connecting with Young Audiences

There will also be a discussion of the opportunities and challenges in effectively engaging the youth audience in the modern age, chaired by FAMALAM’s Creative Producer Amy Martin. The panel will include Erik Tijman from Cinekid in Amsterdam and Hannah Roeg from UK distributor Soda Pictures.
