KINO B30: CINEMA STORIES OF STIRCHLEY AND COTTERIDGE
KINO B30: CINEMA STORIES OF STIRCHLEY AND COTTERIDGE
Sunday 8th September, 2024
Meet outside Perfection Snooker Club, 1239 Pershore Rd, Stirchley B30 2YT.
Wear comfortable shoes. The walk is approximately 1.5 miles on flat ground, and will end in Cotteridge.
Visible traces of cinema in this part of Birmingham are hard to find, but they are there if you know where to look.
This audiovisual walking tour led by Flatpack director Ian Francis will revisit key sites including the Empire and the Savoy, while also discovering local figures who made their living in film. A magician who became a pioneering producer of trick films. A poet-showman-lanternist who ended up repairing trolleys on the Pershore Road. And a cinema organist who served as a stretcher-bearer at the battle of Monte Cassino. Fittingly in this anniversary year, Cadbury will be a recurring theme on our journey.
Kino B30 was an instant sell-out at the recent Flatpack Festival, so we’re running it again for Birmingham Heritage Week’s 10th birthday.
The event is supported by Birmingham Brewery Company, and the ticket price includes a pit-stop and free drink at their tap-room on the Rea Valley route.
