Brazil’s protest movements have been well documented over the past year, but interesting developments are also afoot in the country’s independent music scene. Artists, labels and venues have banded together to form a parallel economy distinct from the mainstream industry, to the extent of even establishing their own currency.

Andrew Dubber, Professor of Music Industries Innovation at Birmingham City University, spent some time interviewing key players in this brave new world, and is now developing a documentary on the subject. This afternoon he’ll be previewing extracts from the film and talking about what he found there.
