Century-spanning programme of short film and performance exploring the many and various ways in which Shakespeare’s writing has inspired filmmakers.

As our new dates happen to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the Bard of Birmingham’s passing (as well as his birthday), it seemed daft not to mark the occasion. This century-spanning programme of short film and performance explores the many and various ways in which Shakespeare’s writing has inspired filmmakers, from a silent version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream – presented with a new live score composed by Fedor Voronov – to a restoration of Aardman classic Next (which Barry Purves will be discussing as part of Unpacked). Finally, composer Natalie Mason presents an original multi-instrumental piece exploring the musicality of Shakespeare's language, in collaboration with director Katerina Pushkin.

Rare Visions and the Infinite Variety Show are part of Shakespeare on Film, a UK-wide programme presented by Film London and the British Film Institute.
