An exploration into the multi-sensory world of visual music and synaesthesia, which begins with a screening of short works by early purveyors of visual music such as Len Lye (A Colour Box, 1935) and Oskar Fischinger (An Optical Poem, 1938) alongside more recent attempts at fusing sound and image. We’ll then be joined by Dr Clare Jonas from UEL, whose research delves into how the senses work together to give us a unified understanding of the world. She’ll provide insight into what synaesthesia is and what it isn’t, ways in which it’s been used in art, and how you might be able to experience it for yourself.
