Stoke Screen Presents: The Sapphires

Stoke Screen Film Club's Season 5 promises to be an eclectic mix of British gems and compelling international titles.

Dubbed the "Austrailian version of Dreamgirls", The Sapphires is a charming musical comedy-drama film based on the 2004 stage play by Tony Briggs, which is loosely based on a real-life 1960s girl group that included Briggs's mother and aunt. The film stars Chris O'Dowd as an R&B-loving musician who helps turn four Australian aboriginal women into a soul act.
