Sunday Cinema is a new one day community film festival taking place outdoors in Bramshall Road Park.
Explore worlds of fairytales and fantasy through screenings and workshops, all completely free! Browse the full programme below, and don't forget to bring along a blanket or chair on the day.
2-3pm: Colour Box: Bugs & Beasts
Settle in for a selection of whimsical short films inspired by Uttoxter local Mary Howit, writer of The Spider and the Fly. You’ll find all sorts of funny little creatures cropping up in these colourful animations suitable for all the family.
2-5pm: Sensory Sound Walks (Suitable for all ages, drop-in)
A series of sensory walks through the park led by sound artist Tom Peel, using plantwave sensors and hydrophones to listen to sounds from plants, trees and water. Tom also has huggable sensory speakers made from recycled water bottles, so sounds can be felt as well as heard. The walks can be delivered nonverbally and are suitable for all ages and abilities (vulnerable people should be accompanied by parents, carers or support workers).
2-5pm: Eight-Legged-Rhyme poetry workshop (Suitable for all ages, drop-in)
A fun and interactive poetry workshop where participants will use creepy crawlies as inspiration to create their own wordplay, poetry and prose. Led by Worcester-based poet Catherine Norris.
2-5pm: Touch Screen Workshop (Suitable for all ages, drop-in)
A sensory play session using nature as a way to explore the five senses, developed by artist Sarah Hamilton Baker and designed to engage with children and families with complex needs.
2-5pm: Clay Mates (Suitable for all ages - drop-in)
Clay making workshop exploring all things nature with Burton-based ceramicist Joanna Dawidowska. Clay making is a lot easier than you’d think, not to mention it’s a boatload of fun for all the family.
3-4.30pm: The Little Mermaid (1989) U
Based on the tale by Hans Christian Anderson, this classic Disney animation tells the tale of a curious mermaid who longs to experience life on land and, against her father’s wishes, visits the surface. Ariel finds herself on an unexpected journey of self-discovery as she encounters a prince, a sea witch, and an incredible new world.
4.30-5pm: Earth Stories Short Films
Discover local and international filmmaking talent with a selection of family-friendly short films from this year’s Earth Stories environmental film festival, including animation, live action and documentary.
5-7pm: The Greatest Showman (2017) PG
This smash hit musical celebrates the birth of show business with a world of imagination, innovation and a little bit of magic.
