The Damned Don't Cry

The second feature film from Fyzal Boulifa (Lynn + Lucy) finds a Moroccan mother and son who are constantly on the move as they try to escape poverty.

Mother Fatima-Zahra has no other option but to sell sex to make ends meet. However, these encounters often end in violence and are followed by her being forced to flee alongside her teenage son, Selim. As they continue to move, they find themselves in Tangier, where Fatima-Zahra is in touching distance of happiness and an escape from her past, but Selim discovers a dark secret about his parentage and himself turns to sex work.

Starring Adbellah El Hajjouji and Aicha Tebbae in their on-screen debut, The Damned Don’t Cry is a powerful, poignant and intimate portrayal of a modern mother and son relationship.
