Trentham Gardens: Playground of the Potteries
Trentham Gardens: Playground of the Potteries
Tuesday 22nd April, 2025
A real celebration of “The Playground of the Potteries”.
Trentham Gardens have been enjoyed by Potteries folk since the early nineteenth century. From the 1840s the gardens at Trentham became nationally renowned. The grounds were thrown open to the public on special occasions- most notably Stoke Wakes Week in August, during which it became a major leisure destination for the people of the Potteries and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Mitchell Arts Centre presents a programme of archival film footage from the Staffordshire Film Archive, which charts the commercial developments of Trentham Gardens from the 1930s up until today. A celebration of local people at play – we see wonderful footage of the gardens over the decades; the swimming pool, lake, ballroom, children’s play areas and much more – through to the creation of the modern Gardens today.
MAC Community days brings you a programme of accessible film all in a bid to break barriers and create a happy place for their community. MAC Community days are in partner ship with Able Stoke, North Staffs Pensioners' Convention, and Staffordshire Sight Loss.
