Whisky Galore!
Whisky Galore!
Saturday 18th August, 2012
Ealing classic in the courtyard of Birmingham's Back to Backs.
Nestling across the road from the Hippodrome, the Back to Backs are one of Birmingham's finest visitor attractions. Recreating a time when Brummies lived crammed into tiny terraces sharing one communal courtyard - and often one tap - the place makes for a great contrast with some of the National Trust's more opulent sites.
This summer we're turning the aforementioned courtyard into an al fresco cinema for the night. Our feature attraction is the ageless 1949 Ealing comedy Whisky Galore!, produced by local boy Michael Balcon and concerning the efforts of a Scottish village to retrieve 50,000 cases of whisky from a stranded ship. Before that we'll have a selection of local archive material, and traditional refreshments will be included in the price of admission.
