As literary adaptations go, Wes Anderson taking on Roald Dahl was always going to be a pretty magical combination. And what better way to experience this family classic than under the stars at the centre of literary haven Hay-on-Wye.
Boasting over 20 bookshops, Hay-on-Wye has been a mecca for readers, writers and ramblers for many years. Until recently the Jacobean mansion at the heart of the town was derelict and off limits, but last summer after several years of restoration work Hay Castle began a new chapter as a centre for arts, culture and education.
Step through the imposing gateway to the castle gardens and settle in for the delightfully funny and beautifully animated Fantastic Mr Fox. Just as with our Dudley horror weekender Beware the Moon we’ll be making the most of the surrounding keep and battlements, creating an immersive environment for cinema under the night sky. Don’t forget to bring a blanket and/or chair.
This screening is part of Writing with Light, a weekend of words and film launching this September with two very special outdoor screenings. Also screening on Saturday 2nd September is Armando Iannucci's The Personal History of David Copperfield.
Visit Hay Castle’s website for more information about the venue and the official website of Hay-on-Wye for accommodation and other places to visit while you’re there.
Writing with Light is produced by Flatpack in partnership with Hay Castle Trust, with support from Film Hub Wales.
