Writing with Light: The Personal History of David Copperfield

Experience the wonderful reimagining of Dickens’ much-loved novel at Writing with Light, a weekend of words and film at Hay Castle.

Brilliantly cast with the endlessly talented Dev Patel taking on the titular character, The Personal History of David Copperfield is one of the most entertaining Dickens adaptations you can find on film. And what better place to see it on the bring screen than literary haven Hay-on-Wye?

Boasting over 20 bookshops, the town has been a mecca for readers and writers and ramblers for many years. Until recently the Jacobean mansion at the heart of the town was derelict and off limits, but last summer after several years of restoration work Hay Castle began a new chapter as a centre for arts, culture and education.

Step through the imposing gateway to the castle gardens and watch as the castle is transformed into an open air cinema. Just as with our Dudley horror weekender Beware the Moon we’ll be making the most of the surrounding keep and battlements, creating an immersive environment for cinema under the night sky. Don’t forget to bring a blanket and/or chair.
