To help you negotiate the festival programme, we're asking a few people to tell us what they're looking forward to in the programme. First up, freelance writer Simran Hans...

Resistance seems to be the theme of this year’s festival, with both feature films and documentaries flavoured with a distinctly anarchic spirit. Of the films on show this year, I’m most looking forward to: - Kelly Reichardt’s

Night Moves

which stars the always-excellent Jesse Eisenberg as a seething, tightly-wound environmental terrorist; - German skateboarding documentary

This Ain’t California

(super-8 footage screened at the Custard Factory’s resident skate-ramp, no less); - and finally

The Punk Singer

, Sini Anderson’s documentary about former riot grrrl Kathleen Hanna. Hanna’s radical feminist credentials and scrappy energy are sure to set the tone for the rest of the festival. Plus, indie documentary distributors Dogwoof (

Blackfish

,

The Act of Killing

) have snapped up this title, a sign that it’s not to be missed.
