What is Oh Dear Video Diary? Inspired by Oh Dear Diary (a series of events in which people get together and read aloud extracts from their teenage diaries), Oh Dear Video Diary will be an event at our thirteenth festival (30 April - 5 May 2019) in which we invite people to share clips from films they made as teenagers, and talk a bit about them. The films can be anything (within reason) and can be on any format (videotape, digital file, mini DV, laserdisc etc, etc), but the funnier, the better.
Why? In accordance with Oh Dear Diary's mantra:
- It’s funny;
- It’s cathartic;
- It’s bonding;
- It’s affectionate;
- But mostly it’s funny.
What if I'm a little anxious about sharing my embarrassing teenage movies? The event isn't designed for people to laugh at you, but to laugh with you. We've all been teenagers. We've all done embarrassing things. It's time to embrace it. There'll also be a compere at the event who will take some of the spotlight, and ask you questions.
By submitting something, what am I committing myself to? Submitting something (using the form below) doesn't commit you to anything, but if we decide together that you'd be suitable to show your material at the event, we'll talk you through exactly what is required, but essentially you should be willing to standup in front of an audience and to talk a bit about the films/clips you're showing.
My film is on some weird extinct format; how will you see it? We'll figure it out, just let us know what format it is in the description below.
