MID-LENGTH FILM COMPETITION 2022: JOIN THE JURY

In 2021, we not only accepted mid-length films into the competition programme for the first time, we also invited Flatpack audience members to join the jury! And we're delighted to announce we're doing it all again for Flatpack 2022...

It's safe to say the decision of which film should take home the £300 prize will be just as tough as last year. The mid-length programme is overflowing with stunning animation, eye-opening documentaries and inspiring stories. We’re looking for a Midlands-based audience member to join Rebekah Taylor, film officer at the Derby Quad Cinema, on the mid-length jury to select the winning film.

WHAT WILL BEING A JURY MEMBER INVOLVE?

Watching. You’ll need to watch all of the films before the 20 May. There are eight films in total, 20-30 minutes each (around 3 hours in total). The jury members will be sent private viewing links to watch the films at their convenience, and the films will also screen at our festival hub in Digbeth on Wednesday 18, Thursday 19 and Friday 20 May. Jury members are also welcome to attend the screenings during the festival. The deliberations will take place on Friday 20 May in Birmingham, with the award winner announced on the Sunday.

Deliberating. We’ll set you up with an introductory virtual meeting with the other jury member (Rebekah), and you’ll then meet up once more on 20 May to discuss the films and come to a decision about the winner.

WHO CAN APPLY?

This opportunity is open to anyone over 18 years old, living in the Midlands, with a strong interest in film. Ideally, you will have attended a Flatpack event before, but no prior knowledge or experience of film or the arts is required. We’re looking for someone who has some time to spare over the next few weeks, who likes sharing their views about film and is interested in stepping behind the scenes of our sixteenth festival.
