Short Film Competition: Artistic Licence
Pablo Picasso supposedly said “Art is a lie that makes us realise truth”.
Whether this is the case or not, art can sure shine a light on things that might otherwise stay hidden - forgotten memories, uncomfortable truths, suppressed narratives.
Exploring the relationship between art, meaning-making and space-making, this programme sees a censorship board struggling to agree on what makes a film appropriate (Titanic: Suitable Version for Iranian Families), a videogame character searching for something missing (Kinderfilm) and an uncomfortable realisation during a promotional video project (This Film Might be White).
You’ll leave the cinema with plenty to think about.
