What is the colour of The Colour of Pomegranates? What is the sound of paper?
Across three screens, outtakes and screen and camera tests will meet collaged archival sounds and new field recordings, accompanied by the inimitable vocal adventures of Elvin Brandhi.
This special live performance coincides with the premiere of a UK-Armenia collaborative project by writer Daniel Bird focused on exploring, reworking and releasing Tigran Mansurian’s legendary musique concrète soundtrack for Sergei Parajanov’s The Colour of Pomegranates.
Tigran Mansurian is Armenia’s leading composer.
Elvin Brandhi is an improvising lyricist, producer and sound artist from Bridgend, Wales, who builds aberrant beats from field recordings, tape, vinyl, instrument and voice.
Daniel Bird writes about the relationship between film and modernism and how it represents history.
A Cage In Search of a Nightingale and its supporting programme has been supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
