Darryl Georgiou’s parents ran a café on the Soho Road during the 1980s, a place that would serve as a meeting-point and occasional photography studio. His Handsworth youth helped to forge his interest in documenting the world around him, both through still and moving images.
Eventually hours of Super 8 film coalesced into the short film B21, which now acts as a potent time-capsule of a lost world. The score is by Stephen Luscombe of Blancmange, who died last year.
If you have B21 roots you may well spot some familiar faces. The work will be showing throughout the day at the Sons of Rest building, which has recently been taken on by Friends of Handsworth Park.
